How to Use MindSniper
1. Getting Started
Step 1 — On the map list, tap + to create a new map, or open one of the sample maps that are created for you on first launch.
Step 2 — Tap the + button on the toolbar or FAB to add an idea node, then double-tap a node to edit its text, description, color, emoji, and shape.
Step 3 — Drag nodes anywhere on the canvas. Pinch to zoom in and out, and drag empty canvas with one finger to pan around large maps.
2. Connecting, Moving, and Cutting Lines
- Connect — Single-Hand mode: select a node, then drag from it to another node. Two-Hand mode: hold the floating Hold button while dragging. Either way, a rope-like connection line grows between your ideas.
- Move — Drag any node to reposition it. In Single-Hand mode, tap the node first if it isn't selected — dragging a selected node draws a connection instead.
- Cut — Touch a connection line (or within a finger's width of it) and drag across. Cutting always starts on the rope itself, and the line snaps apart — the signature MindSniper move for pruning ideas.
Tip: Two operation modes live in Settings → Interaction & Style, and in both modes the canvas behaves the same on open space: drag with one finger to pan, and start any cut on the rope itself. Single-Hand (Apple Pencil): tap a node to select it, drag a selected node to connect, drag an unselected node to move it. Two-Hand (Modifier): drag any node to move it; hold the floating Hold button while dragging to connect instead.
3. Styling Your Map
- Nodes — Change node color, emoji, shape, font size/boldness, text alignment, flag a node, or set task progress. Select several nodes at once to apply a style to all of them.
- Connection lines — Choose curve, straight, or dashed styles; add arrowheads (V line, solid, hollow, diamond, dot) on one or both ends; pick a connection color.
- Canvas — Switch backgrounds (plain, dark, paper ruled, graph paper, dotted, and more) and toggle the grid. App-wide Dark Mode is available in Settings.
- Themes — Pick a theme palette (candy, forest, ocean, and more) to re-skin every node and connection of the whole map in one tap.
4. Automatic Layouts & Viewing Tools
Tap any layout button in the toolbar to instantly rearrange your whole map:
- Organic — a force-directed layout that untangles knots naturally.
- Radial Ring — a circular arrangement around a central idea.
- Mind Map Tree — the classic balanced left-right tree layout.
Additional tools in the top bar keep your maps easy to explore:
- Search & Filters — find nodes by text or filter by flag, progress, color, or shape; matches pulse-highlight on the canvas.
- Outliner — read and edit your map as an indented tree list. Tap a row to locate the node on the canvas, or edit a title inline and it updates in the map.
- Focus Mode — dim everything except the selected branch so you can concentrate.
- Screen rotation — rotate your iPad and the canvas keeps the same spot centered automatically.
5. History, Undo, and Versions
- Undo / Redo — undo or redo your last edit at any time from the toolbar.
- Version snapshots — the App automatically keeps the most recent 10 snapshots of each map on your device so you can roll back after big changes.
- Restore Last Session — relaunching the App reopens the map you last worked on, at its saved zoom and view position. Turn it off any time in Settings → Session.
- Map list — rename, duplicate, or delete maps from the sidebar map list.
6. Exporting and Sharing
Export any map from the toolbar: PNG image, PDF, SVG vector, JSON data, OPML (for other mind map apps), Markdown task checklist, or plain text. The iOS share sheet lets you save to Files, AirDrop, Mail, and more. Exports never leave your device unless you choose where to send them.
7. Motion Effects (Optional)
Both effects are switched off by default and can be enabled anytime in Settings → Motion Effects:
- Shake to Jiggle — give your device a shake and every connection line springs and wobbles like real rope.
- Rotate to Resettle — turning the device makes the lines droop and resettle under the new gravity direction.
Note: Motion effects read the device's motion sensor in real time while the effect runs. Everything is processed on your device and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere — see our
Privacy Policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MindSniper need an internet connection?
No. MindSniper is fully offline — it never connects to any server for any reason.
Where is my data stored?
Your maps and notes are stored only in local files in the App's private area on your device, along with automatic version snapshots and your display preferences. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Why does the App reopen the same map and spot each time I launch it?
That's the Restore Last Session setting (on by default): the App reopens the map you were last working on at its saved zoom and view position, so you never lose your place between sessions. Turn it off any time in Settings → Session.
Does MindSniper sync to iCloud or any cloud service?
No. MindSniper does not sync your maps to iCloud or any other cloud service. If you want a copy elsewhere, use Export and save the file wherever you like.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Delete a map from the map list at any time, or uninstall the App to remove everything at once.
Why can't I cut a connection line?
Cutting must start on the line itself: touch the rope (or within a finger's width of it) and drag across it in one stroke. A swipe that starts on empty canvas pans the map instead. If the line is selected, deselect it first, then try again.
Why can't I see the Shake to Jiggle / Rotate to Resettle effects?
These optional effects are off by default. Enable them in Settings → Motion Effects. They run only while the map is open and are designed to be subtle so they never interfere with editing.
I rotated my device and the view stayed put — is that a bug?
No — that's intentional. MindSniper keeps the same spot of your map centered when you rotate between portrait and landscape, so you never lose your place. The optional Rotate to Resettle motion effect adds a gravity-style rope droop on top of that centering.
The app crashed or isn't working properly. What should I do?
Try force-quitting and relaunching the app. If issues persist, please email us at daibou007@gmail.com with details about the problem, your device model, and iOS version.
Does MindSniper collect any personal data?
No. MindSniper does not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
