Different watermelon varieties have slightly different rind density and knock acoustics. Selecting the correct variety on the Home screen applies a small frequency offset for a more accurate ripeness estimate. If you're not sure of the variety, "General Watermelon" works well for most cases.
If the app isn't picking up your knocks, or is picking up too much background noise, go to Settings → Detection Sensitivity and choose:
Every completed detection is saved to the History tab with its variety, ripeness, pitch frequency, and timestamp. Swipe left on any record to delete it, or use "Clear All Local Data" in Settings to remove everything at once.
Melon Pitcher follows your iOS system appearance by default. You can lock the app to Light or Dark mode at any time in Settings → Display Mode.
Why does Melon Pitcher ask for microphone permission?
Microphone access is essential for Melon Pitcher's core functionality - capturing and analyzing the pitch of your knock on the watermelon. All audio is processed locally on your device. No audio data is uploaded or transmitted to any server. You can revoke this permission anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Does Melon Pitcher require an internet connection?
No. All core detection functionality works completely offline. An internet connection is only used if you choose to share the app or leave an App Store rating.
How accurate is the ripeness detection?
Melon Pitcher analyzes the dominant frequency of your knock using FFT-based pitch detection in the 200-350 Hz band associated with watermelon ripeness. Results are a helpful guide based on acoustic analysis, not a guaranteed measurement, and should be combined with your own judgment (e.g. checking the field spot and the dried tendril).
The app isn't detecting my knocks. What should I do?
Try moving your iPhone's microphone closer to the watermelon, knocking more firmly, reducing ambient noise, and increasing the Detection Sensitivity in Settings. If issues persist, please email us at daibou007@gmail.com.
Does Melon Pitcher collect any personal data?
No. Melon Pitcher does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. All audio processing happens locally on your device and raw audio is deleted within 2 seconds of analysis. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Is Melon Pitcher a paid app or does it have in-app purchases?
Melon Pitcher is a one-time paid app with no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or ads.
