How to Use Snap Privacy

🏠 Home Screen – Three Core Features

The home screen provides quick access to all features:

Single Photo Clean — Select one photo, inspect its metadata, and strip sensitive data with one tap or selective field removal.
Batch Album Clean — Clean entire albums or multiple photos at once. Perfect for processing vacation photos or large collections.
Metadata Inspector — View all hidden data embedded in any photo: GPS coordinates, camera model, lens info, exposure settings, timestamps, and more.

🔍 Metadata Inspector – Viewing Hidden Data

Step 1 — Tap "Metadata Inspector" on the home screen.

Step 2 — Tap "Choose Photo" to select a photo from your library.

Step 3 — Browse through metadata categories: Location, Camera, Exposure, Timestamp, and Other.

Step 4 — If GPS data exists, a mini map shows the photo's location. Tap to open in Maps.

💡 Tip: Categories are collapsible. Tap a section header to expand or collapse it.

🧹 Single Photo Clean

Step 1 — Select a photo from your library.

Step 2 — Review all detected metadata before cleaning.

Step 3 — Choose "One-Tap Clean All" to remove everything, or "Selective Clean" to pick specific fields.

Step 4 — Save the cleaned photo to your library or Files app.

💡 Tip: Use Selective Clean when you want to keep some metadata (like timestamps) while removing sensitive data (like GPS).

📦 Batch Album Clean

Step 1 — Tap "Batch Album Clean" on the home screen.

Step 2 — Select an album or choose specific photos.

Step 3 — Configure cleaning rules: Full Clean (all metadata) or Preset rules.

Step 4 — Start cleaning. Progress is shown in real time.

Step 5 — Receive a completion notification when done. Review the summary of cleaned photos.

💡 Tip: Large batches run in the background. You can close the app and return later to see results.

📤 Share Extension

Clean photos directly from any app without opening Snap Privacy:

Step 1 — In Photos, Files, or any app, select a photo and tap Share.

Step 2 — Choose "Snap Privacy Clean" from the share sheet.

Step 3 — Review the detected metadata count.

Step 4 — Tap "Clean & Share" to strip metadata and continue sharing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What metadata does Snap Privacy detect?

Snap Privacy reads EXIF, TIFF, IPTC, and GPS metadata including: GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude), camera make/model, lens model, exposure settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), timestamps (capture date, modification date), software used, copyright notices, artist/author names, and image dimensions.

Does the app upload my photos?

No. Snap Privacy is 100% offline. All inspection and cleaning happens on your device. There are no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no network connections. Your photos never leave your device.

What file formats are supported?

Snap Privacy supports JPEG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, and most RAW formats from major camera brands (Canon CR2, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW, etc.). Some proprietary RAW formats may have limited metadata support.

Is the cleaning lossless?

For JPEG, PNG, and HEIC, the app preserves original image pixels while removing metadata. For some RAW formats, re-encoding may affect image data. The app shows a SHA-256 integrity hash so you can verify the output.

Why does the app need photo library access?

Photo library permission is required to read photos for metadata inspection and to save cleaned copies. The app never modifies your original photos — cleaned versions are saved as new files.

Can I revoke photo library permission?

Yes. Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Snap Privacy and change access to "None" or "Limited Photos". The app will prompt for permission when needed.

What happens to my original photos?

Original photos remain untouched in your library. Cleaned photos are saved as new copies either to your photo library (as new items) or to the Files app (On My iPhone > Snap Privacy).

How do I batch clean an entire album?

Tap "Batch Album Clean", select your album, choose your cleaning rule, and start. The app processes photos in parallel and shows progress. You'll receive a notification when complete.

Can I use Snap Privacy offline?

Yes — the app works completely offline. All features, including metadata parsing, cleaning, and Share Extension, function without an internet connection.

How do I restore default settings?

There is no "reset all" button. You can manually change each setting in the Settings screen. To clear the app entirely, delete and reinstall it.

The app crashed or isn't working properly. What should I do?

Try force-quitting and relaunching the app. If the issue persists, please email us at daibou007@gmail.com with a description of the problem, your device model, and iOS version.
