Summary: PocketNoise is a fully on-device, privacy-first sound level meter. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. All microphone processing and data storage happen entirely on your device.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how PocketNoise ("we", "our", or "the App") handles information when you use our mobile application. PocketNoise is designed to work entirely on your device — no account, no server, no tracking.

By using PocketNoise, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

PocketNoise does not collect any personal information. Specifically:

We do not require you to create an account or sign in.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information.
We do not use analytics SDKs or track your usage behavior.
We do not collect device identifiers or advertising IDs.
We do not upload any audio data, noise logs, or measurements to any server.

All noise records, decibel samples, and app preferences are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted anywhere.

3. Microphone Permission

PocketNoise requires access to your device microphone to measure ambient sound levels in real time. Specifically:

Microphone input is processed on-device in real time to calculate decibel (dB) levels.
No audio is ever recorded, stored as an audio file, or transmitted externally.
Only numerical dB measurements (not audio) are saved to your local noise log.
You can revoke microphone permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. The app will not be able to measure sound levels without this permission.

4. Location Permission

PocketNoise may request access to your device location for an optional GPS tagging feature. Specifically:

Location access is entirely optional. The app's core features work without it.
Location data is only accessed when you explicitly tap "Tag Location" on a noise recording.
GPS coordinates are stored locally on your device as part of the noise record.
No location data is transmitted to any external server.
You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

5. Local Data Storage

All data generated by the App is stored exclusively on your device:

Noise Records — Session-level records (start time, duration, average dB, peak dB, optional GPS) stored via SwiftData on your device.
Decibel Samples — Time-stamped dB readings within each recording session, stored locally.
App Preferences — Settings such as alert threshold, frequency weighting, and calibration offset are stored via iOS UserDefaults.

Uninstalling the App will permanently delete all locally stored data.

6. PDF Report Export

PocketNoise can generate PDF reports of your noise recordings. These PDFs are created locally on your device using your stored data. When you share a PDF using the iOS share sheet, you control where it is sent. We do not transmit, receive, or store any exported reports.

7. Notifications

PocketNoise may send local notifications (via the iOS notification system) for Sleep Guard alerts when noise exceeds your configured threshold. These notifications are generated entirely on-device. No notification data is sent to any external server.

8. Third-Party Services

PocketNoise does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or social login services. No data is shared with any third party.

9. Children's Privacy

PocketNoise does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App is rated 4+ on the App Store and is safe for all ages.

10. Your Rights

Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on our end. All your data lives on your device and can be removed simply by uninstalling the App.
