How to Use Pill Tracer

1. Adding a Medication

Step 1 — Tap the + button on the Home screen to open the Add Medication form.

Step 2 — Enter the medication name. You can also scan the barcode on the packaging using the camera icon to auto-fill drug information.

Step 3 — Select the dosage form (tablet, capsule, liquid, etc.) and enter the single dose amount.

Step 4 — Set how many times per day you take it and configure the exact time points for each dose.

Step 5 — Optionally set your total supply quantity and a low-stock alert threshold.

Step 6 — Enable reminders and tap Save — your medication is now tracked.

Tip: You can also scan a barcode by tapping the camera icon in the medication name field. Make sure to grant camera permission when prompted.

2. Setting Up Reminders

Pill Tracer sends local notifications at your scheduled times:

Enable reminders for a medication by toggling the reminder switch in its detail or on the Reminders tab.
Grant notification permission when prompted (iOS Settings → Notifications → Pill Tracer).
Reminders fire even when the app is closed or your phone is locked.
If you miss a reminder, tap Take Now on the Home screen to log the dose.
Tap Snooze to delay a reminder by 15, 30, or 60 minutes.

Tip: All reminders are processed locally on your device — no internet connection is needed.

3. Tracking Your Supply

The Supply Tracker tab shows your remaining pills and estimated days of supply:

Tap Take Now to record a dose. The app automatically deducts from your supply.
Use the pencil icon to manually record extra consumption or pill losses.
View your full consumption history with the clipboard icon.
The app alerts you when your supply drops below your configured threshold.

4. Using the Barcode Scanner

Pill Tracer can scan drug barcodes to automatically look up medication information:

Tap the camera icon in the medication name field while adding or editing a medication.
Point your camera at the barcode on the medication packaging.
The app reads the barcode and searches for matching drug information.
Confirm the auto-filled details and complete the rest of the form.

Tip: Camera permission is required for this feature. You can manage it anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

5. Backing Up and Restoring Data

Go to Settings → Backup Data to export all your medication data as a JSON file.
Share the backup file via AirDrop, email, or save it to Files.
To restore: open the backup file with Pill Tracer or use Settings → Restore.
Use Reset All Data in Settings to permanently clear everything — backup first!

6. Customizing Settings

Appearance — Choose Light Mode, Dark Mode, or System Default
Notifications — Enable/disable medication reminders globally
Vibration — Enable/disable vibration for reminders
Backup Data — Export all data as a local backup file
Reset All Data — Clear all medications and history

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an internet connection to use Pill Tracer?

No. Pill Tracer works 100% offline. All features — adding medications, setting reminders, tracking supply, and viewing history — work without an internet connection.

Why does Pill Tracer ask for camera permission?

Camera access is used exclusively for scanning medication barcodes to auto-fill drug information. No images are saved or transmitted. You can revoke this permission anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

Why does Pill Tracer ask for notification permission?

Notification permission is required to send local medication reminders. Without it, reminders will not fire. Grant permission in iOS Settings → Notifications → Pill Tracer.

Will reminders fire when the app is closed?

Yes. Reminders are scheduled as local iOS notifications and fire on time even when the app is backgrounded, closed, or your phone is locked — as long as you have granted notification permission.

Is my medication data backed up to iCloud?

No. All data is stored locally on your device only. Nothing is uploaded to iCloud, our servers, or any third party. You can create a manual backup using Settings → Backup Data.

Can I use Pill Tracer on multiple devices?

Yes, but data does not automatically sync between devices. You can export a backup on one device and restore it on another manually.

How do I delete a medication?

Swipe left on a medication in the Medications list and tap Delete. Deleted medications are moved to trash with a 7-day recovery window before permanent deletion.

The app crashed or isn't working properly. What should I do?

Try force-quitting and relaunching the app. If issues persist, please email us at daibou007@gmail.com with details about the problem and your device model & iOS version.

Does Pill Tracer collect any personal data?

No. Pill Tracer does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. All processing happens locally on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
